During 2016 I posted a whopping 10 posts here on my blog, that is not even one a month, it’s shameful. How I dare to still state on my social media profiles that “I am a blogger” is pretty dam cheeky of me!
Q – What is my excuse?
A – “I was busy” (lame I know!)
It has been quite a year. Let’s digest.
This time last year I had said goodbye to 15 years of childcare and was looking forward to new challenges that my new career held. I had landed (what I thought then) was my dream job. I was going to earn my keep by cooking for a living. My regular readers might have noticed that I LOVE to cook, so I was over the flippin’ moon to get started. I was to work for a local independent company who employ around 50 people. I was to serve a hot meal every lunchtime and had full control of the menu.
Let us fast forward two months after starting my position, it all had gone to shit. The company refused to register with Food Standards, anyone in the food business will know what a huge no no that is, in fact you do not have to be in the food business to be aware of the legalities of food standards. It is a must for anyone who serves food to the public for payments. This caused friction and I was treated very poorly. One morning I was left with no option but to hand in my notice and walk out with my head held high.
It was the right decision to make. Although that didn’t make it any easier to deal with. In fact it hit me pretty hard. I didn’t know what I was going to do and for a good few months, I felt very lost. I had made such a big deal about landing this position, I had the support and encouragement from all my family and friends and now I had to explain that it hadn’t turned out as planned. The grass was most definitely not greener on the other side. I won’t lie to you, I was really upset and felt so sad that it hadn’t worked out, even though I knew I was in the right and had to leave to protect myself from huge fines, or worse case, imprisonment.
For the rest of the year, I then decided to concentrate more on recipe projects and food writing, which all kept me very busy and some money coming in, before turning back to what I know best….childcare! I guess sometimes you need that break to realise just how much things mean to you, and childcare is my thing. I adore it. Give me the chaos of looking after multiple children and I will be as happy as a pig in….you know what.
The year then brought lots of changes. Many more crappy situations and many happy changes. We grew our little household in the shape of a puppy! yes a PUPPY! a DOG! I have had many years of dealing with a huge phobia of dogs, that was getting gradually worse, so to have conquered that fear and to now have one living under my roof, laying here on the floor watching me while I type this, still feels very surreal. Maybe I will write a little post on how I dealt with my fear, if anyone is interested? Let me know in the comments.
So that is my excuse for only posting 10 posts this year. There were a few posts that I wrote up, personal posts, rants and topics but I never published them. I chickened out at the last minute. That is why I stick to recipes mostly, they are easier to post, no one can be offended by a recipe. BUT I want to change it up in 2017. I enjoy writing (typing) so I want to allow myself to do it more often. I want to publish posts about topics that mean something to me, I want to share more of my life with you, to all 9,000+ of you! (that figure still blows my mind).
For now I am having fun brainstorming topics I am going to post about. Deciding when I shall schedule posts for publishing and I am giving my blog a little spruce up. Have you noticed my new layout? I have said a fond farewell to Blogger and I am now in the unknown world of WordPress. If anyone has any tips regarding WordPress, please do feel free to share them with me and if you have any recommendations for my blog or any topics you enjoy reading about, tell me in the comments below.
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, surrounded with the people you love and I wish you all a very Happy New Year. I shall see you next year…with lots of content, I promise!
